In my spare time, I often find myself playing with ideas for enhancing the DotNetNuke (DNN) core.  Most of the time I am developing prototypes as a “proof of concept” – i.e. they are not complete, and may never be completed.

One example of this is my recent blog series on developing modules for DNN using ASP.NET MVC.  So far I have demonstrated that the default MVC Application created using the ASP.NET MVC version 1 template can be converted, with little effort, into a DNN module.  In order to accomplish this I had to create a framework that sits on top of the DNN core.

The code to do this is very rough, there is still a lot of work to do, but I have had a number of requests to make the current code available. Where should it go?  I could include a zip file attached to my blog, but that is not very discoverable.  I could create a  DNN Forge project, but many of these ideas may never go anywhere, and some may end up being moved into the core.

The United Nations Public Administration Network ( or UNPAN ) is organised by the UN Division for Public Administration and is part of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. It’s mission statement is to promote the sharing of knowledge, experiences and best practices throughout the world in sound public policies, effective public administration and efficient civil services, through capacity-building and cooperation among the United Nations Member States, with emphasis on south-south cooperation and UNPAN's commitment to integrity and excellence.

The UNPAN site was implemented by AppTheory, a long-time supporter of the DotNetNuke community, and a member of the Fusion Partner program. Since this site is a mission critical resource for UN members worldwide, the United Nations opted for DotNetNuke Professional Edition.

Now that we are a week into 2010, I think the time is right to share one of my more serious New Years Resolutions for the coming year. Reflecting upon 2009, I can point to many areas where I was instrumental in helping chart an exciting new course for the DotNetNuke project, but the one area where I believe I fell significantly short is in regards to community participation.

In past years I was far more active in community channels such as the Forums and Blogs and I personally believe this increased level of transparency was instrumental in stimulating the overall health and momentum of the project. Therefore in 2010 I resolve to increase my community activity and become much more vocal on a wide variety of topics which affect the DotNetNuke ecosystem.

To begin with, I promise to share more regular insight into the product...

In the dwindling club of 90's dot-com survivors, Craigslist stands as one of the great success stories. Started in 1995 by Craig Newmark as an e-mail newsletter that kept friends posted on San Francisco area arts and technology events, Craigslist soon evolved into a text-based community and classifieds site serving the San Francisco area.

From TechSoup.org - the online technology resource center for non profitsWe jot down new year's resolutions with the best of intentions. Our promises for the coming year are bound to include something about volunteering more often or shedding those extra holiday pounds. But what about your nonprofit's technology resolutions? Is your Web site in desperate need of an update? Have your organization's computers fallen into disrepair? Are you itching to finally try your hand at blogging or finally learn how to use RSS?Here's your chance to write down those resolutions for all to see — and perhaps to hold yourself accountable. Feel free to add your own resolutions to this wiki page, read about out what others have resolved to accomplish in the new year, and check back to let the community know when you've followed through. Get healthy: Stop procrastinating and upgrade the antivirus definitions on all of our organization's computers -- or finally install antivirus software in the first place. Consume no more unsavory meat products: Find out more about spam filters and learn about ways to prevent spam....

An immediate benefit of a content management system is that you can add, edit, and update your content as much as you want. More importantly however is the long-term advantages of a database-driven, content management approach. These benefits can have an even greater impact on an organization’s bottom line.

Immediately after it was coined, the phrase web 2.0 started to spread like wildfire through the development community. It has become a catchphrase for some and a benchmark for many. But what does it really mean? The Internet, like all technology has changed with the times and it is a constantly moving target. It is important that businesses understand that a web presence is no longer simply a "cookie cutter" collage of pretty pictures and text. Rather a web presence is a virtual post card that quickly and efficiently explains your unique services and core compentencies - in 60 seconds or less!
